Lots of Research

Over the first half of the Christmas holidays I've been working on FMP research and planning.
Before the end of term we had a presentation with the tutors to steer us in the right direction with our FMP project. We had pretty good feedback from our idea of making an 'art of' book showing the process of concept to final in engine model for our chosen folklore.
When we presented our idea we hadn't really chosen a specific culture folklore as we were undecided between Inuit, Japanese and Greek.
Mike and Stas' feedback steered us in the direction of making and art of book containing elements from all three folklores. We have also been told to have a lot of practice printing done very early on as to not run into problems further down the line. Keeping this in mind Georgia is going to get a practice print done using Blurb. The plan is to use the Style Matrix art and finals to create a layout we like and send it off for the test print.
This week I started on the wide range of research that I need to do. As we are doing three different folklores and cultures I want to really know what I'm doing and understand the history behind the characters, creatures and myths.
Lately I have been making a detailed list of a range of humanoid mythological people, creatures and a few environment ideas. I've been attempting to make an even list of each aspect of the project.
The focus of this FMP for me in terms of employability is my 2d work, that's all the concepts, idea generation and mainly creature creation that I want to showcase. This is why I am containing a lot of mythological creatures to concept and create for our art book. Georgia on the other hand wants to showcase her 2d skills for characters as well as working a little in 3d to have a varied portfolio.
Our timeplan at the moment is slightly basic however we only need an idea at this point as we will refine this plan in the new year.

We have allowed the lot of leeway in our timeplan, this means we have time to work on stretch goals and leaving a lot of time to fix the book if anything goes wrong when printing.
Up next for me is more research into relevant art styles which we could use for each folklore to show that we can work in different styles, as that's a desirable aspect in a concept artist.
I will also do some more research into what type of book layout would be appropriate for our 'art of' book.
