End of Inuit Folklore

This week I used 3ds Max for the first time in a while and I mean A....WHILE. Making an ice cavern in max wasn't the easiest task ever however I managed to make the entrance way into the cavern very basically. All I wanted from this blockout was to get the idea of an entrance into the cavern. I used blockouts so the perspective would be accurate in the final painting.

Below are the blockouts I made, for the renders I used daylight lighting and mental ray render.

As the Ice Caverns are not a large area in the game I only did small/quick paintings to illustrate the look I'm going for.

I also started designing Quailertetang, who is Sedna's servant seal. Georgia had designed Sedna so whilst looking her designs I tried to think of an interesting character which could work as her servant.

I decided to do some studies of the Leopard Seal as it's one of the largest seals out there and it has quite a unique and interesting shaped head and body.

After studies I added more human like arms and legs so the character could have more gesture and look more mystical. Adding these features worked in the end and I'm pretty happy with shape and dynamic of this creature.

I worked on designing the actual look of the game in terms of interface this week as well. I designed the menu for the map and bestiary for the Japanese culture and I managed to get the Inuit culture one finished as well!

The map and bestiary would be on the screen after the book opens up and then the player can flick through the pages of the bestiary or look at the map. In each different culture the book will display items which the player has collected on the way and different things from each culture is incorporated into the book.

I still have yet to draw up the Greek design of the map and bestiary. This week we're now onto Greek folklore and the idea for this part of the project is to make these well known creatures look unique and weird.

Also here's my timeplan for this project so far. It's fairly brief.

That's all for now, see you next week with lots of Greek stuff and things!
